Dr Samantha Pickles

Lead Forensic Scientist

Samantha has been a forensic scientist since 2002 and is one of only a small number of Forensic Entomologists in the UK who are actively involved in casework. Having been cross-trained within Biology, Drugs and Ecology departments, she has conducted hundreds of laboratory, scene and mortuary examinations. With extensive experience across a range of forensic and medical case types, she is regularly involved in multi-disciplinary investigations and delivering forensic training for professional practice.

In addition to this expertise, she holds an MSc in Medical Parasitology with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (University of London), a PGCE in post-compulsory education (specialising in adult learning) and completed her PhD in Medical Entomology with the University of Nottingham (School of Pharmacy). Samantha is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and the Royal Entomological Society, a Professional Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Science.

Samantha is an honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Surrey (Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences) and is the Lead Forensic Scientist at ArroGen Veterinary Forensics.
