Notes for editors

  • ArroGen Veterinary Forensics is now part of the Forensic Access group.
  • ArroGen Veterinary Forensics represents ArroGen’s collaboration with the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey. This unique partnership brings together experts in animal diagnostic and research pathology with specialists who have worked within the forensic sphere of the UK Criminal Justice System for many years.
  • By harnessing our collective knowledge of forensic and animal science we are able to offer a wide range of forensic pathology and science services to agencies that deal with, or investigate, crimes against animals across the UK and beyond.
  • Our main aim is to provide the court with robust forensic science in cases of individuals who are accused of committing crimes against or involving animals, and a significant component of our work is to develop a strong social justice agenda and deliver results which disrupt crime patterns and the evolution of animal to human criminal behaviour. This includes educating investigators, legal professionals, veterinary and allied practitioners in the application of veterinary forensic science.  This is built upon evidenced based forensic science which is actively promoted through our collaborative, multidisciplinary, forensic research portfolio.
  • The forensic centre is located in Oxfordshire, where we work with the ArroGen Forensics team and our pathology centre is based at the state of the art Veterinary Pathology Centre at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Surrey. This is where we are building our research, teaching and CPD portfolio.
  • By combining our strengths in forensic pathology and science, and building on the existing infrastructure and our established track record as human medico-legal practitioners, ArroGen Veterinary Forensics offers a novel animal forensics service.
  • The team is led by Alexander Stoll BSc VetPath (Hons) BVetMed MVetMed DipFMS MRSB MRSPH FRCPath MRCVS. Alex has experience in developing and providing forensic veterinary pathology services and has a passion for teaching and public engagement.  He is one of only a handful of veterinary pathologists in the UK with both forensics and pathology qualifications and is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Surrey, Visiting Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Derby and Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Dundee.
