Forensic Document Services

Forensic document analysis is employed to examine any form of Questioned Document to help establish the author(s), to identify any alterations and to help establish the origin.

Questioned documents can include legal documents such as identification documents, animal passports, import/export documents relating to the illegal wildlife trade, pedigree certification, vaccination certificates, prescriptions, wills, cheques, threatening letters and any form of letter or note relating to criminal activity.

We offer a full range of expert services including assessment of handwriting and signature comparison, ink analysis, or in the case of word processed documents, additional or altered content. We are also able to analyse indentations which may be left on paper that was lying underneath the topmost sheet, using a method called ESDA. This can reveal indented writing which may provide valuable intelligence information. We also have the expertise and patience to reconstruct documents that have been shredded or torn in order to complete a physical fit analysis.

Critically, we will conduct the analysis in conjunction with other experts so as to optimise the recovery of evidence. This can be particularly useful when document examination is carried out in collaboration with fingerprint analysis as the presence of fingerprints from a named individual can be evidentially significant.
